How turbulent traditional financial markets look right now — equity volatility and US dollar strength — not a crypto-specific read. The only indicator on this site that looks outside crypto entirely.
A Crypto Playback score built from two real inputs: the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) and the US Dollar Index's (DXY) daily move. VIX ≥30 (equities' classic "high fear" threshold) adds 2 points, ≥20 (above its long-run average) adds 1. A single-day DXY move of ≥0.5% in either direction adds 1 point. 0 points reads Low, 1–2 reads Moderate, 3 reads Elevated.
Crypto doesn't trade in a vacuum - a risk-off shock in traditional markets (volatility spikes, a sharply strengthening dollar) often spills into crypto risk appetite too, even when nothing crypto-specific has changed.
Yahoo Finance's public market data (VIX, DX-Y.NYB). Both only update during US trading hours, so readings hold steady overnight and on weekends — not stale data, just no new trading session yet. Refreshed automatically every 15 minutes.
