How many individual Bitcoin transactions moving $1,000,000 or more showed up in a recent sample of network activity.
Sampled from the most recent 1,000 unconfirmed (mempool) transactions via blockchain.info's public API. Each transaction's total output value (in BTC, converted to USD at the current price) is checked against the $1M threshold. 0 qualifying transfers reads Quiet, 1–4 reads Active, 5+ reads Elevated.
Total output value is a standard but approximate proxy for "amount moved" - it can overcount slightly since change outputs returning coins to the sender are included too, and it can't distinguish a whale accumulating from an exchange shuffling coins between its own wallets. Treat this as a size signal, not an intent signal.
Large transactions are worth knowing about even without knowing their intent - a cluster of them often precedes or accompanies periods of higher volatility.
