Market Breadth

BUILDING (11/50 DAYS)

Last updated OCT. 10, 2026

What It Measures

The percentage of a fixed universe of 40 major coins (by market cap, stablecoins and wrapped/staked tokens excluded) currently trading above their own 50-day simple moving average - the same style of "breadth" reading traders use for stocks (e.g. the share of S&P 500 members above their 200-day average), applied to crypto.

How It's Calculated

Each coin's own 50-day SMA is computed from its stored daily price history, then we count what share of the universe is currently priced above that line. The 40-coin universe is locked in on this indicator's first day and isn't reshuffled day to day, so the reading tracks the same set of coins over time instead of silently changing what it measures.

Why It Matters

Distinguishes a broad, widespread trend from one being carried by just a handful of large coins - two markets can show the same headline price action with very different breadth underneath it.

Data Source & Update Frequency

CoinGecko public markets API, one price snapshot per coin per day. Refreshed a few times a day on its own schedule - not the 15-minute cycle the other live indicators use, since a moving-average reading doesn't change faster than daily.

Refreshed a few times a day — a moving-average breadth reading changes at most once a day, not something backfilled or estimated between real updates.
